Bunker - photo by Afterneath
After I unsuccessfully tried to stay awake during a 3-hour car trip back home from a work meeting, I saw a sign directing me to this gem.  However, it was raining and pretty chilly at the time.  It was minutes from darkness in the evening, so I rushed down a trail and snapped some photos of this thing.  It was pretty far off the highway.  This place was silent except for the sounds of nature and the creek running below the bridge.  I dared myself to walk through the tunnel by myself and come back.  It was extremely dark inside once you were halfway through.  I felt very uneasy doing this as I felt like millions of spirits were watching me as I did it.  The water below the bridge was red and muddy, uncharacteristic of creeks around North Carolina.  I made it to the end, snapped a photo looking back, and rushed back to my car.  At the time, I had a bad head cold.  The whole experience was uneasy.  I’m glad I captured it in photo.
